A Guide To Elementary School Fundraising Ideas

Elementary School Fundraiser Ideas: Common Mistakes In Recruiting Volunteers

Volunteers as you know very vital in every school fundraiser. They provide the much needed manpower that you alone cannot give. No matter what kind of elementary school fundraiser ideas you have prepared for your fundraising events, volunteers will still be a part of your team. But how can you effectively recruit volunteers and avoid mistakes in the recruitment stage of your fundraiser?

You need to understand that even though you’ve prepared great elementary school fundraiser ideas for your fundraiser, you also need a helping hand in making sure that these ideas will be implemented effectively. That’s why the need to recruit volunteers is important. The first mistake that you need to avoid in recruiting your volunteers is recruiting alone. It is very difficult to recruit on your own since you don’t have somebody which can back you up in case you can’t answer the questions that are being asked by people you want to recruit. It is also more encouraging to the people you want to join if you have a partner since this they know that somebody else also believes in your efforts to put up a fundraiser. When partnering people to recruit for you, it is recommended to partner your senior member with a new member so that the latter could learn from the former. Another thing that people overlooks in recruiting volunteers is recruiting life time volunteers, not short term volunteering job. You need to understand that not all people want to be volunteers for life. They also have things that they need to do and you can’t force them to just stay in your fundraising events to be a volunteer for a long time. You should always set a deadline for their volunteering job and make it a short commitment. You can easily recruit more people this way since they will know that they will not be tied up in your organization for a long time.

When recruiting volunteers, there will come a time that you will people who doesn’t want to join your cause. This is acceptable since it is their right to reject an offer that they don’t want. But you should understand that not all “no” answers means “never”. Timing is everything in doing fundraisers, sometimes people decline to your offer because he/she busy with something else or maybe it is not the right time for them to volunteer for your fundraiser yet. But you should never label these people as somebody who rejected you and never talk to them in joining your cause. Always be open to the possibility that they will be joining your fundraiser soon, they just need to finish some things before doing so.

There would also come a time in your fundraiser that you are in a hurry in filling up volunteer positions because your events will be starting soon. You should never stress yourself into filling the empty positions because you might get the wrong person. It is much better to keep that key position empty rather than obtaining a person who does nothing in your fundraiser.
